Senior outside hitter Lindsey Vander Weide hit .370 on the night and registered a team high 12 kills in leading the Oregon Ducks to a three set sweep ( 25-22, 25-21, 25-20) of the Utah Utes Wednesday evening at Matthew Knight Arena.
Playing for a possible seed and home court advantage in the opening round of the NCAA tournament, Oregon was unable to shake the Utes until late in each of the three sets but once the finish line was in sight, the Ducks took care of business.outscoring Utah 10-2 to close out set one, winning the last three points at 22-21 to claim set two, then wrapping up the third set and the match with a 6-3 closing run.
As a team the Ducks out hit Utah .296 to .206.
With the win Oregon improves to 18-9 on the season and 11-6 in the Pac-12 with one home match left on the schedule, Friday’s match-up with Colorado.
“We have a really confident group right now,” said Oregon head coach Matt Ulmer “I think we’re just really starting to click at a high level … I thought we looked pretty comfortable. I liked our energy. I thought we communicated well and I thought we played a pretty steady match.”
Four seniors, Vander Weide,Sumeet Gill, Lauren Page and August Raskie will be recognized for their contributions to the program before the match with the Buffaloes. The match is scheduled to begin at 7:00 pm.
