Julia Taylor scored three goals and Mariah Gatti and Shannon Williams each added a pair to lift the Oregon Ducks to an 11-8 win over Michigan in their 2017 season opener Saturday afternoon at Pape` Field.
The Ducks took advantage of the home field, jumping to a quick 3-0 lead over the Wolverines, then after yielding Michigan’s first, reeled off three more goals to take a 6-1 midway through the first half.
The Wolverines rallied to within a goal in the early minutes of the second half with a late goal before the break then quickly struck for a pair to open the second stanza.
Taylor scored back-to-back for the Ducks to cushion their margin to 9-6 and the teams traded a pair of goals to close out the scoring.
Goal keeper Becca Katzen made nine saves in picking up the win, facing 17 Wolverine shots on goal in her sixty minutes of playing time.
Oregon put 19 of 25 shots on net and had the upper hand in ground balls won 17 to 9.
The Ducks’ four game opening homestand continues with San Diego State set to visit Pape Filed on Saturday beginning at 12:00 pm.
