 Out of the Pac

Three of four on the picks last week puts the season tally at 40-22 and I think half of those 22 come from picking the wrong side of the Beavs and Huskies... two teams that apparently completely baffle me... A short slate of games this week, but first as always, we take a look back at last weeks action.

Arizona State 24 - UCLA 20 (Pick: ASU 35-10)
Arizona State was less than impressive but it is difficult to quarrel with 9-1. The Bruin's season has officially entered its annual year end free-fall.

USC 24 - California 17 (Pick: USC 34-24)
Woe be the TedHeads. a preseason filled talk of Heismans, Rose Bowls and maybe even national championships has slipped away in an avalanche of injuries and perhaps just a touch of over-amped expectations. Justin Forsett is no Marshawn Lynch and DeSean Jackson hasn't done a thing since the Oregon game. Meanwhile, the Trojans lurk behind ASU and Oregon should either falter in the closing weeks of the season.

Washington State 33 -Stanford 17 (Pick: WSU 34-7)
Again the question must be asked - did the Trees really beat the Trojans earlier this year? Regarded as mediocre at best before pulling off the upset Stanford has been simply atrocious since. and this result in Pullman is a pretty good indicator of how inept the Trees really are. But those on the Farm can take solace that Notre Dame is coming up and no one with a heartbeat has lost to Notre Dame this season - whatever that may say about UCLA.

Oregon State 29 - Washington 23 (Pick: UW 27-13)
A wild one that had the Pac-10 suspending replay crews and reprimanding the replay supervisor. Jake Locker was knocked out of the game with a concussion and that allowed the OS defense to keep the ball in the hands of their offense often enough they were able to outpoint the Dawgs.

Week 12

Oregon @ Arizona
Last year's match-up with the Wildcats was arguably Oregon's worst performance of the season. This season Arizona has again been a Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde team - Willie Tuitama has orchestrated some staggering numbers on occasion, but there have been too many inexplicable losses. Facing the second ranked Ducks is without doubt the largest stage the Wildcats have played on since they defeated Nebraska in the Holiday Bowl in the late 90's. The spotlight's glare will be harsh - Bellotti coached teams have a stellar record coming off bye weeks and this year's Ducks have shown themselves to be very capable of playing to the task at hand. A dangerous game, but one Oregon wins on better offensive discipline and a better defense across the board. Oregon 38 - 17

California @ Washington
Jake Locker may not play due to a concussion suffered last weekend in Corvallis. If Carl Bonner starts for the Huskies, the Bears win by 28, 31-3. If Locker is able to play the Bears win by 21, 31-10.

Oregon State @ Washington State
OS starting quarterback Sean Canfield won't be taking the snaps in Martin Stadium - his shoulder injury will have Lyle Moevao behind center again for the Beavers. Although Moevao and the Bennies mildly surprised OoPac by upending the Huskies last Saturday, having to start your back-up quarterback in Pullman rarely is a prescription for success. Alex Brink leads the Cougs to a 27-21 win.
