With sophomore forward Ruthy Hebard sitting on the bench wearing a protective boot on her right foot, Oti Gildon was given her first collegiate start against the Hampton Lady Pirates Tuesday evening at Matthew Knight Arena.

The junior forward took full advantage of the opportunity, leading the Ducks with a career best 20 points and 12 rebounds in Oregon’s wire-to-wire 87-45 win.

“Oti stepped up and had a huge game,” said head coach Kelly Graves. “She’s our Draymond Green and she really played like that today.”
“I was a little nervous,” Gildon admitted. “I haven’t started in a college game yet, but I stepped up and played pretty well so I was glad I could step up for the team and filTehl some big shoes that Ruthy has.”

The Ducks opened an early 6-0 lead against the Lady Pirates and then quickly expanded their advantage to 20-9 and was never threatened.

Freshman forward Satou Sabally added 18 points to the cause with two other Ducks reaching double digits on the score sheet. Oregon out rebounded the visitors 49-27 and connected on 31 of 65 of their shots from the floor (47.7%) while holding Hampton to 18 of 63 (28.6%).

With a size advantage at every position, Oregon out scored the Lady Pirates 40-24 in the paint.

The Ducks return to Matthew Knight Arena to host Weber State on Saturday, December 2nd. Tip-off is set for 2:00 pm.
