The Oregon women once again broke the century mark, pounding Western Oregon University 109-65 Sunday afternoon at McArthur Court.
Head coach Paul Westhead's fast break attack created 91 shots for the Ducks and his full court defensive pressure forced 35 turnovers and the Ducks took full advantage of the transition opportunities to shoot nearly 53% from the floor in the easy victory.
Sophomore forward Amanda Johnson's 25 points led the Ducks and classmate Nia Jackson added 23 points, six assists and six steals and Oregon was never really threatened by the Wolves.
"I saw some individual improvement," said Westhead of his team's performance. "It says to me that we need all of this week to clean some things up. We are going to need three, four or five games into the season to really be sharp in this pressing and running system. We are not there but they (his team) are engaging so I'm more pleased than not."
Seeing her first activity of the season, senior guard Taylor Lilley chipped in 13 points and five assists, logging 26 minutes of playing time.
"I have to get back in the rhythm of things. It has been about 14 days or so since I've really been out there doing stuff. It was good for me to be out there."
"When you press, the pace of the game is really fast," said Johnson. "I enjoy how the press can dictate the momentum of the game and the pace of the game. As a team that makes us more competitive."
