Oregon Wallops Western Oregon 109-65

The Oregon women once again broke the century mark, pounding Western Oregon University 109-65 Sunday afternoon at McArthur Court.

Head coach Paul Westhead's fast break attack created 91 shots for the Ducks and his full court defensive pressure forced 35 turnovers and the Ducks took full advantage of the transition opportunities to shoot nearly 53% from the floor in the easy victory.

Sophomore forward Amanda Johnson's 25 points led the Ducks and classmate Nia Jackson added 23 points, six assists and six steals and Oregon was never really threatened by the Wolves.

"I saw some individual improvement," said Westhead of his team's performance. "It says to me that we need all of this week to clean some things up. We are going to need three, four or five games into the season to really be sharp in this pressing and running system. We are not there but they (his team) are engaging so I'm more pleased than not."

Seeing her first activity of the season, senior guard Taylor Lilley chipped in 13 points and five assists, logging 26 minutes of playing time.

"I have to get back in the rhythm of things. It has been about 14 days or so since I've really been out there doing stuff. It was good for me to be out there."

"When you press, the pace of the game is really fast," said Johnson. "I enjoy how the press can dictate the momentum of the game and the pace of the game. As a team that makes us more competitive."

Oregon opens the regular season hosting Eastern Washington on Monday, November 16 at 7:00 pm

Ducks Rout Red Raiders

They do run.

They do score.

The Oregon Ducks women's basketball team showed off its new offensive system under coach Paul Westhead Tuesday night demolishing Southern Oregon 109-46 in an exhibition game at Mac Court.

Micaela Cocks led the Ducks with 22 points as Oregon put up an incredible 98 shots from the field. They hit 46 of ?em. The Ducks would have scored more but for their pedestrian 12-for-22 from the free throw line.

Jasmin Holliday threw up a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Amanda Johnson (19) and Nia Jackson (15) also had double digit points. The Ducks were able to get 12 players in the game and each of them scored.

The Ducks ended the contest early, coming out of the locker room with a 21-2 run in the first five minutes of action. Oregon forced Southern Oregon to turn the ball over 11 times during that five-minute span. The Raiders had 45 turnovers before the night was over.

Oregon hit triple-digits without their best shooter in Taylor Lilley who sat this one out due to a mild ankle sprain. Without her, the Ducks were just 5-for-19 from beyond the arc.

The Ducks held a 60-26 halftime lead and slowed things down just a touch as they outscored the Raiders 49-21 in the final 20 minutes of action.

Krystal Smith led the Raiders with 13 points and Jacki Speer added 10.

Oregon will continue its exhibition season Sunday, Nov. 8 when it hosts Western Oregon for a 2 pm tip-off. It will be the first game of a doubleheader as the Duck men will host Lewis and Clark at 6 pm.

The women's team will officially get the season underway Monday, Nov. 16 when the Ducks will host Eastern Washington.
