Ducks Wallop Weber State 114-87

A 44-point third quarter by the Oregon Ducks overwhelmed the visiting Weber State Wildcats Saturday afternoon at Matthew Knight Arena.

What was a closely contested ball game through the first two periods got out of hand and got out of hand quick once the second half started. Leading 50-44, the Ducks went on a 16-5 tear behind a barrage of three point baskets from Sabrina Ionescu and Lexi Bando. When the smoke finally cleared the Ducks held a 94-67 lead and coasted to the finish to pick up their seventh win of the year.

“It kind of looked like the previous regime out there,” said head coach Kelly Graves referring to Paul Westhead’s run and gun offensive philosophy. “Just out score them.”

Give the Wildcats credit, that task wasn’t easily done. Both teams were deadly from behind the arc and it was the three ball that kept Weber State within reach of the Ducks during the first two quarters. Twenty seven of Weber State’s first half points came from distance and the Widlcats ended the night hitting 17 of 34 three point attempts.

The Ducks were just a bit better on 17 of 33 and the 34 combined three point baskets is a single game program record as was Oregon’s 44 points in a single quarter.

Freshman forward Satou Sabally led the hit parade with 22 points. Ionescu added 21 and tied the program record with 14 assists.

Oregon picked up 25 points off 13 turnovers and out rebounded the Wildcats by eight, 37-29.

“We got hot,” said Ionescu. “We kind of got on a roll there … It was a great night offensively for us.”

Now 7-1 on the year, the Ducks will take a week off for final exams before returning to host Southern Utah on Sunday, December 9th. Tip-off is set for 2:00 pm
