Ducks Take Two of Three From California

The Oregon Ducks took the first two games before falling to the California Golden Bears 5-3 is Saturday’s finale at Jane Sanders Stadium.

The Ducks got off on the right foot with a 1-0 shutout of the Bears in Thursday’s opening game. Allee Bunker reached base on a fielder’s choice, stole second base and scored on a Jasmine Sievers double for the game’s only run. Jordan Dail allowed only three hits and struck out 11 to pick up the complete game victory.

Friday’s contest was suspended after one inning with the Ducks up 1-0 and completed on Saturday. Oregon added a run in the third on Haley Cruse’s home run over the left field fence then added a pair in the sixth highlighted when Sievers hammered a 3-2 pitch over the centerfield wall.

Again Dail picked up the complete game victory, holding the Bears to six hits while fanning six.

A pair of fielding miscues helped stake the Bears to a five run lead in Saturday’s nightcap. Sievers and Bunker again combined to push a couple runs across the plate in the sixth and Shaye Bowden added a solo blast to center to bring the Ducks within two runs at 5-3, but Oregon could do no further damage.

Kailey Kruger was charged with the loss, allowing a pair of earned runs in a third of an inning.

With a record of 4-11 in Pac-12 play and 19-22 overall, the Ducks next host the Portland State Vikings in a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday, April 23 beginning at 4:00 pm. Oregon returns to conference action when they host the Oregon State Beavers for a three game set beginning Friday, April 26th with first pitch set for 2:30.
