The 8th-ranked Oregon Ducks opened 2021 the same way they closed out 2020 – with a blowout win at Matthew Knight Arena. Their 92-69 romp over the USC Lady Trojan was the Ducks’ 22nd straight win at home their 27th consecutive victory overall – the longest such streak in the nation.
The visitors never had a chance. After a disjointed opening quarter the Ducks out scored USC 23-7 in the second stanza to take a commanding 42-19 lead into the locker room at the break.
Missing Taylor Chavez (family matter), Sedona Prince (ankle), and Sydney Parrish (undisclosed), head coach Kelly Graves was left with 10 available roster players and all saw minutes in helping the Ducks improve their season record to 8-0 overall and 6-0 in Pac-12 play.
Six Ducks posted double figures in scoring with Taylor Mikesell leading the way with 16. Nyara Sabally (15 points), Te-Hina Paopao (14 points), Erin Boley, Jaz Shelley (13 points each) along with Kylee Watson off the bench with 11 points led the hit parade for Oregon.
The Ducks connected on 36 of 70 attempts for a 51.4% mark from the floor and clobbered the Lady Trojans on the glass 38-25 with freshman Angela Dugalic grabbing nine rebounds for top honors.
“I was really pleased with how we played,” said Graves. “…We did some good things defensively. I thought in that first half we had them completely out of sync.”
Oregon forced USC into 16 turnovers good for 20 points at the other end of the floor while pounding the Lady Trojans in the paint, snaring 14 offensive rebounds and outscoring the visitors 38-28 inside.
Next up, the Ducks host the 11th-ranked UCLA Bruins on Sunday with the opening tip set for 1:00 pm. Pac-12 Networks will handle the broadcast.
