The 15th-ranked Oregon volleyball team held serve at home with a Saturday sweep of the Arizona State Sun Devils after a five set come-from-behind win over the Arizona Wildcats Friday evening at Matthew Knight Arena.
After dropping the first set 25-22 Arizona (8-11, 2-8 Pac-12) bounced back to take the next two, 23-25 and 18-25.
Injuries have sidelined much of Jolie Rasmussen’s season but her return to the line up against the Wildcats was the spark Oregon needed in the fourth set. The Ducks jumped to a 10 point lead at 15-5 and closed out the set on a roll, 25-9.
The deciding set broke Oregon’s way with five straight points at 6-5 leading Willow Johnson getting the game winner at 15-10.
Oregon out hit the Wildcats .256 to .143, Taylor Agost leading a trio of Ducks with double digit kills at 14.
Arizona State (10-12, 0-10 Pac 12) never really knew what hit them in a three set Oregon sweep on Saturday. A pair of Willow Johnson kills capped set one 25-20. A 9-1 run to open set two saw Oregon’s offense hitting on all cylinders then fending off a late ASU rally to take a strangle hold on the match 25-21.
The Oregon attack broke open a 16-11 match in the third set with a 7-1 run, closing out the sweep 25-14.
Rasmussen led the Ducks with 10 kills and registered a pair of aces. Oregon out hit the Sun Devils .323 to .165.
With the win the Ducks improved to 13-5 overall and 6-4 in conference play with home dates against Utah (Wed, 10/25, 7:00 pm – Pac-12 Networks) and Colorado (Fri, 10/27, 7:00 pm) closing out a four game home stand.
