The 2017 MPSF conference schedule got started on the right foot for the Oregon Ducks with a 11-9 win over the San Diego State Aztecs Saturday afternoon at Pape` Field.
The Ducks controlled the first half, taking a 4-1 lead on three straight goals before heading into the break up 4-2. The teams traded seven goals each in the second half with the Ducks enjoying a three or four goal lead until a pair of late San Diego State scores narrowed the final margin to two.
Shannon Williams netted four to lead the Ducks in goals, a career high for the sophomore attacker, who added an assist for good measure.
Statistically the match was even with San Diego State holding slight advantage in shots at 30-28, but the Ducks had the better of it with shots on goal 19-16. Each team committed 18 turnovers.
Goalkeeper Becca Katzen was credited with the win, her second of the season.
The Ducks improve to 2-0 on the year and host Canisius Monday at 1:00 pm.
