Ducks Fall To 10th-Ranked California

img_7397gThe 10th-ranked California Bears blanked the Oregon Ducks 2-0 Saturday evening at Pape` Field. The loss kept the Ducks winless in Pac-12 play at 0-6, 6-8-1 overall. The Bears remain unbeaten in conference at 5-0-1 and 12-2-1 for the year.

A penalty kick in the 20th minute was the Bears’ winning goal with an insurance tally added in the 61st minute.

Oregon was outshot 12-4 overall and 6-2 in shots on goal. The Bears also had the better of it in corner kicks 7-2.

‘There were some good moments out there,” said head coach Kat Mertz. “ … we just have to go back to work and get ready for Thursday.”

That will be when Oregon’s home stand continues with the Ducks hosting Arizona at Pape` Field with first touch set for 4:00 pm followed by the Sun Devils of Arizona State on Sunday 1:00 pm. Both the Sun Devils and the Wildcats are within reach in the standings, each is sitting just one game ahead of Oregon coming into the weekend series.
