Ducks Bounce Back, Bop Buffaloes 77-62

Troy Brown scored 21 points and and tied for the team lead with seven rebounds to lead the Oregon Ducks to a 77-62 win over the Colorado Buffaloes Sunday evening at Matthew Knight Arena.

The win evened Oregon’s conference record at 1-1 and the Ducks are now 11-4 overall. The Buffs slipped to 8-6, 0-2.

“Troy’s line was really good,” said head coach Dana Altman. “Our energy was much better. We forced them into a few turnovers … We’ve got to get more active. I think there is still a lot more there defensively. But it was a big step from the other night, just because our energy and activity was much better.”

The Ducks jumped to an early 13-2 lead and never let Colorado get closer than three points, eventually taking a 37-28 lead into the break.

Colorado closed within four points at 39-35 three minutes in to the second half but Oregon answered with a 13-2 run capped by a Payton Pritchard 3-ball. The Buffs would get no closer than 11 points the rest of the way.

Elijah Brown helped the Ducks’ cause hitting six of his eleven shots for 17 points. Freshman center Kenny Wooten added 13 points, going four for four from the floor, five for six from the free throw line and blocked three shots. Pritchard drilled both his three point attempts on his way to a dozen on the night.

Colorado did out rebound the Ducks 32-30 but a more active Oregon defense picked up 11 steals and forced 20 turnovers.

The Ducks shot 51.0% from the floor on 26 of 51 while holding Colorado to 42.4% on 25 for 59. Oregon also sank 19 of 22 free throws compared to the Buffs’ 5 for 8 from the line.

Next up the Ducks travel to Corvallis in the first round of the Civil War on Friday, January 5th. Opening tip is set for 7:00 pm and the game will be televised by FS1.
