The Ducks had a hard time of it Friday evening against the Stanford Cardinal, falling by a score of 15-7 at Pape` Field.
The Ducks started strong, challenging Stanford’s first two goals with goals of their own in the 7th and 9th minute of the first half. However, that momentum soon fell short and Stanford took control of the first half, building a 6-2 lead by the break.
The scorers for Oregon in the first half were Shannon Propst, Sami Keiser, and Casey Brogan (2), Carly O’Connell, Rachel Steinberg, and Shannon Propst scored in the second. Stanford also controlled the majority of the draws throughout the game. They ended the game with 15 draw controls to Oregon’s 8.
Stanford continued their domination of the game in the second half, scoring just 5 seconds into the second half. The second half also saw a flurry of yellow cards as the game became physical. Stanford was shown 3 yellow cards while Oregon was given one.
After this loss to Stanford, head coach Jen Beck offered clear ideas about what the team needs to do before their next game.
“Really it is just taking care of the things we can control. I think Davis is going to come in here super fired up. They’re going to be ready to go and wanting to take us down. We’ve got to quickly turn and focus on this game. Again, take care of the things we can control and a lot of the things today that happened against us were in our control.”
The Ducks will return to Papè Field again on Sunday 4/13 to take on UC Davis. After the results of this game, the Ducks have a 7-5 record overall and a record of 3-1 in the MPSF.
