The Oregon Ducks were overpowered by the University of California Golden Bears Saturday, winning only one singles match and falling 6-1.
The Ducks lost all three doubles matches 8-5, earning Cal the doubles point. Despite early deficits from each of the three doubles teams, Oregon's No. 3 team of Ric Mortera and Stephen Wiechert battled back from a 0-5 deficit, tightening the match at 5-7 and sparking a possible comeback. However, Cal's Pierre Mouillon and Daniel Sebescen pulled away, holding their service to win the match 8-5.
The Ducks' earned their only point with No. 2 singles player Alexander Cornelissen's victory over Tyler Browne, 6-3, 6-2. Cornelissen went up 3-1 with an early double break, and continued to punish Browne's serve, dominating the remainder of the match.
Oregon's No. 1 player Marcos Verdasco also fell to Mouillon 6-4, 6-4. Verdasco began the match well, breaking Mouillon's serve early in the first set to lead 2-1. However, Mouillon broke back, earning a 4-2 advantage and never relinquished the lead.
