Freshman catcher Jack Scanlon went 3 for 4 including his first collegiate home run in Oregon’s 9-1 win over the Nevada Wolf Pack Sunday afternoon at PK Park.
After spotting Nevada early leads in the first two games of the series, Oregon wasted no time in seizing control of game three, scoring one in the first, two in the second and another in the fifth.
Meanwhile starting pitcher Robert Ahlstrom tossed six innings of zeroes, scattering four hits, walking only one and striking out four to pick up his first win of the young season and giving the Ducks the series sweep over the WolfPack.
First baseman Gabe Matthews struck the big blow of the day, a three-run double in the seventh after Nevada pitchers had walked the bases loaded.
Nevada scratched out a meaningless run in the ninth against reliever Christian Ciuffetelli, after Keaton Chase and Hunter Breault each worked one inning.
Oregon hosts Milwaukie for a four-game series beginning Friday, Feb 28 with first pitch scheduled for 4:00 pm. The teams will play two on Saturday, starting at 1:00 pm then conclude the set at noon on Sunday.
